The 5th Xihua Chemistry and Biomedicine Forum

Amid the global pursuit of innovative approaches to disease diagnosis and treatment, the interdisciplinary convergence of chemistry and biomedicine has emerged as a pivotal force driving advancements in the field. Cutting-edge technologies such as optical probes [1], nanotechnology [2], immunotherapy [3], and biosensors [4] are finding increasingly widespread application in disease diagnosis and treatment, sustaining intense interest from both academia and industry. Against this backdrop, the 5th Xihua Chemistry and Biomedicine Forum was successfully held at Xihua University (Chengdu) from July 12 to 15, 2025, infusing new vitality into academic exchanges and innovative progress in this domain.
The name "Xihua" carries a dual meaning: it not only clearly indicates that the venue is Xihua University but also contains the grand vision of "Western China" — based in western China and radiating to the whole country, it aims to help the chemical and biomedicine industries achieve leapfrog development by integrating scientific research forces from western China and the whole nation [5]. This concept has run through the development of the forum, witnessing the growth trajectory of its expanding influence from the initial conceptual prototype to the current brand identity. The Editorial Board of Organic Chemistry of Chin. Chem. Lett. (CCL) has played a key role in the preparation of the Xihua Forum Series on Chemistry and Biomedicine (Fig. 1), and its professional guidance and in-depth participation have provided important support for the successful holding of the forum.

The theme of the 5th Forum revolves around “Analytical Detection and Diagnosis & Treatment”, focusing on the frontier directions of chemistry, biomedicine, new materials, and other disciplines. The well-known experts and scholars in the field of analytical detection and diagnosis & treatment have gathered to attend the forum. Professor Junjie Zhu from Nanjing University, Professor Huimin Ma from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Haichen Wu from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Yi Lv from Sichuan University, Professor Bing Shao from Xihua University, Professor Jianli Li from Northwest University, Professor Minhuan Lan from Central South University, Professor Ping Li from Northwest Normal University, Professor Xuechuan Hong from Fudan University, Professor Peng Wu from Sichuan University, Professor Deju Ye from Nanjing University, Professor Jianguo Wang from Inner Mongolia University, Professor Xinggui Gu from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Dr. Lei Liu and Yahui Zhang from Xihua University delivered keynote Lectures. The lectures focused on the frontier fields of biomedicine, benefiting the audience present a lot. The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Zhouyu Wang, Dean of the College of Science. Professor Fangnian Lang, Vice President of Xihua University, on behalf of the university, welcomed the attending scholars. Professor Leyong Wang, co-chair of the conference, on behalf of Chin. Chem. Lett., congratulated on the convening of this conference.
Notably, the Editorial Board of Chin. Chem. Lett. provided all-round support in the preparation of the forum: from the precise polishing of the theme positioning to the scientific arrangement of the academic agenda, the CCL Editorial Board offered professional guidance with profound disciplinary accumulation and rich experience. This in-depth participation not only enhanced the academic quality of the forum but also endued it with an international perspective, helping the forum steadily increase its influence on academic stages at home and abroad. Professor Huanfang Guo, Director of the CCL Editorial office, stated that CCL will continue to further cooperate with the Xihua Forum in the future to achieve a win-win situation between the academic journal and the Xihua Academic Forum. It is believed that in the near future, both CCL and the Xihua Forum will reach a higher level to form the Brand in the field of Chemistry and Biomedicine.
Finally, sincere gratitude is extended to Chin. Chem. Lett. The Organizing Committee of the Xihua Chemistry and Biomedicine Forum has established a strategic cooperation relationship with the CCL Editorial Board, and the two sides will work together to create a series of cross-disciplinary academic activities to jointly promote the development of the discipline. We look forward to the "Xihua Forum" in July 2026.
