Synthesis of N-Alkyl Pyrrolidone

Two N-alkyl pyrrolidone,N-octyl pyrrolidone and N-lauryl pyrrolidone,were prepared by means of solid-liquid phase transfer catalysis in 83.8% and 87.2% yield respec-tively. The new art in which tetra-butyl-ammonium bromide is used as phase-transfer cata-lyst and KOH-K₂CO₃ as mixed base,is characteristic of short reaction time,mild reaction conditions and easy operation.
