Tellurium of high purity (99.999%) was prepared from technical tellurium (99%) through oxidation to tellurium dioxide, dissolution in NaOH, changing into Na₂TeO₄ by treatment with Na₂S° 9H₂O and H₂O₂, successively. The HCl solution of Na₂TeO₄ was then treated with SO₂ gas to give high purity tellurium.
