A novel one-dimensional Ag(Ⅰ) coordination polymer, [Ag(C10H9N6Cl)(NO3)]n (1), was synthesized by the reaction of 4-chloro-6-[2-(pyrazin-2-ylmethylene) hydrazinyl] pyrimidine (HL) with silver nitrate. In complex 1, the HL ligands are arranged alternately to link the Ag(Ⅰ) ion through N5 atom from the pyrazine ring and N1, N4, N6 atoms from another ligand, leading to an extended zigzag chain coordination structure. Furthermore, the zigzag one-dimensional chains are extended into a supramolecular architecture via N-H…O and N-H…N hydrogen-bond interactions and π-π stacking interactions. The complex 1 was found to have superior radical scavenging potency against superoxide anion and hydroxyl than free HL. The antibacterial effects of complex 1 against different bacteria were also better than that of free HL.
