Preparation of Macroporous Silica Gels for Gel Permeation Chromatography

Macroporous silica gels of average pore size of 4×10²~1×10³ nm were prepared from silica gels of an average pore size of 20~30 nm by calcination. The obtained products have pore volumes of 0.8 mL/g and porosity of more than 0.65. Tests have shown that such macroporous silica gels can be used in GPC for the separation of polyacrylamide with MM_w<1.5×10⁷.
