A quarternary hydrogen storage alloy LaNi₄Cu_0.5Co_0.5 was prepared using a coprecipitation-reduction-diffusion method. The alloy is activated easily. The surface species and composition of the alloy were derived from XPS measurements. SEM studies revealed many microcracks formed after activation, favoring rapid hydrogen absorption kinetics.
