Effect of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfonate on Solution Viscosity of Copolymer of Acrylamide and Sodium Allylsulfonate

The effect of sodium dodecyl sulfonate(R₁₂SO₃Na)on the viscosity of aqueous so-lutions of copolymer of acrylamide and sodium allylsulfonate(ASA)in the presence of NaC1 and/or n-butyl alcohol(R₄OH) has been studied.It is shown that the intrinsic viscosity[η] of PASA decreases with the increase of the concentration of R₁₂SO₃Na in the presence of both NaC1 and NaC1-R₄OH, but increases,when only R₄OH is preserit.The effect of R₁₂SO₃Naon the viscosity of polyacrylamide(PAM)solution is similar to that of mineral salts, where-as the viscosity of PASA increases with the R₁₂SO₃Na.
