Condensation of 3-(3'-pyridyl)-4-amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole 4 with aromatic or fatty acids in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride gave 24 novel 3-(3'-Pyridyl)-6-alkyl/aryl-s-triazolo[3,4-b]-1, 3,4-thiadiazoles 5_α-x. Their structures were confirmed by elemental and spectral analyses. Some of the compounds were found to have some moderately fungicidal and herbicidal activities.
