SYNTHESIS OF RARE EARTH QUATERNARY SULFIDES Ln₆MSi₂S₁₄(M=Co,Ni)

Two new series of rare earth sulfides containing Co (Ni) and Si have been synthesized by gas-solid reaction of rare earth oxides, cobalt (nickel) oxide and Si powder under a mixed gas flow of H₂S and CS₂ at high temperature (1100-1250℃). The X-ray powder diffraction data and the lattice parameters of these compounds were given.
