CeO₂ nano-powders were synthesized by coupling homogeneous precipitation and carbon adsorption method. The effect of the amount of added carbon on the nano-powder size was investigated. The optimal carbon to Ce(NO₃)₃ mole ratio is 3. The phase,particle shape,particle size and specific surface area of CeO₂ particles were characterized by XRD,TEM and BET. CeO₂ powder calcined at 700℃ is cubic fluorite and has a surface area of 53.6 m²/g. The average particle size is about 18 nm. The structures of the products calcined at 800~900℃ remain stable and no agglomeration could be observed.
