Ultrafine γ-Mn2O3 powder was prepared by an oxidation method under hydrothermal conditions. After sintering at 100~550℃ in air the products exhibit good stability and have been characterized by XRD, TEM, XPS, IR and UV spectra measurements to be fine crystals of single phase, majority in ball form. Their average sizes increase with increase of the sintering temperatures. The manganese in γ-Mn2O3 is in Mn(Ⅲ) form.
