Polystyrene-g-polymethylmethacrylate(PSt-g-PMMA) with controlled molecular weight and lower polydispersity was obtained through anionic polymerization, group transfer polymerization(GTP) and polymer reaction. First, polystyrene with narrow Mn distribution prepared by anionic polymerization was chloromethylated by methylal and sulfurylchloride to form chloromethylated poly-styrene (CMPS), which was then dissolved in THF for purification by addition of naphthalene sodium and reacted with living PMMA prepared by GTP. Results showed that the grafting rate increased with increase of the chlorinity of CMPS and decreased with increase of the molecular weight of CMPS. The graft copolymer(PSt-g-PMMA) was characterized and investigated by GPC, 1H NMR, FTIR and SEM.
