Synthesis of Nanosize MnO₂ by Solid State Reaction and Its Electrochemical Property Ⅲ.Synthesis and Performance of α-MnO₂

Nanoparticles of α-MnO₂ were prepared by one-step solid state redox reaction at room temperature or 60℃. The solid state reaction was studied by XRD and TEM observation. It is shown that the time of grinding directly affected the crystalline type of the products from amorphous MnO₂ to unstable δ-MnO₂ and stable α-MnO₂. The reaction rate of KMnO₄ with MnCl₂·4H₂O was greater than that with Mn(Ac)₂·H₂O. The dischrge capacity of α-MnO₂ nanoparticles was larger than that of International Common Sample No.1 electrolytic MnO₂ especially in heavy load discharge.
