Synthesis of Phosphono Carboxylic Acid Cotelomer and Its Property

A phosphono carboxylic acid cotelomer(POCA) was prepared from acrylic acid(AA), 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid(AMPS), NaH₂PO₂ and Na₂S₂O₈. The optimum synthetic conditions were: m(AA)/m(AMPS)=3:1, concentration of NaH₂PO₂=15%,concentration of Na₂S₂O₈=2.5%, temperature 110℃, time 4 hours. The product showed a better scale inhibiting and dispersing property than HEDP(hydroxyethylidene bisphosphonic acid) and HPMA(hydrolytic polymaleic anhydride).
