Synthesis and Properties of Ferrocenyl-1,1'-dialkylferrocenylmethanols

Ten ferrocenyl-1,1'-dialkylferrocenylmethanols were prepared by reduction of corresponding ferrocenoyl-1,1'-dialkylferrocens with LiAlH₄. The hydroxyl group containing compounds with ethyl groups in 1 and 1' positions of two ferrocenyls are very sensitive to acid, forming stable ferrocenyl-1,1'-dialkylferrocenylmethyl carbocations in CH₂Cl₂ in the presence of BF₃. The cabocations thus obtained in reaction with CH₃CH₂NH₂ gave the corresponding ethylamino compounds. All of the compounds synthesized were characterized by IR and ¹H NMR spectrometric mesurements.
