Synthesis of Diferrocenylmethylaminoalcohols and Their Silylation

The reactions of diferrocenylmethanol, ferrocenyl-2,1'-diethylferrocenylmethanol and ferrocenyl-3,1'-diethylferrocenylmethanol with BF₃ in CH₂Cl₂ produced the stable diferrocenylmethyl carbocations. Without separation from the reaction mixture, the cations were treated with aminoethyl alcohol to afford three diferrocenylmethylaminoethyl alcohols respectively. The silylation of the aminoalcohols with trimethylchlorosilane in the presence of triethylamine gave directly the corresponding alkoxysilanes. All of the compounds synthesized were characterized by IR, ¹H NMR spectra and elemental analysis.
