Preparation of Crosslinked Carboxymethyl Chitosan Microsphere and Its Adsorption for Pb²⁺

The chitosan microsphere under protection of amino groups was cross linked with epichlorohydrin to get adsorbent insoluble in acid, which was reacted with chloroacetic acid to give carboxymethyl chitosan resin(CMCS). The FT-IR spectra and adsorption experiment for Pb²⁺ of the product showed that most Pb²⁺ were adsorbed on CMCS in the first 1 h and the pH value of the medium has great influence on the adsorption capacity. The adsorption capacity of CMCS towards Pb²⁺ was 1.12 mmol/g at pH=5, 70% higher than that of chitosan resin.
