Synthesis of Random PESEKK Polycondensates Containing Bis(o-methyl) Groups

A series of random polycondensates were synthesized by low temperature solution polycondensation of 2,2',6,6'-tetramethyl-diphenoxydiphenylsulfone(o-M₂DPODPS), isophthaloyl chloride(IPC) and terephthaloyl chloride(TPC) in the presence of AlCl₃ and NMP in 1,2-dicholroethane. The polycondensates were characterized by IR, WAXD, TGA and ¹H NMR, and their η_inh and solubilities were determined. The polymers show high T_g due to the presence of bis(o-methyl) groups in the main chain, and the T_g increases with the increase of the ratio of TPC to IPC. The polymers are non-crystalline, and have excellent solubilities.
