Synthesis and Structure Characterization of Binuclear Zinc Schiff Base Complexes

A series of binuclear zinc Schiff base complexes were synthesized by the reaction of di-Schiff base dimers bridged with alkyloxy links of different length and zinc acetate. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, ¹H NMR and UV-vis. The result shows that the complexes adopt stretched conformations in DMSO. The red shift of B₁₀-Zn₂ in CH₂Cl₂ can be explained in terms of metal-π interaction in the close conformation of the discrete di-Schiff base units. The conformation analysis was performed to explain the experimental results.
