r-Methacryloxypropyl nano-sized silica (MPNS) was copolymerized with maleic anhydride (MA) in toluene when BPO was used as initiator.The structure and property of MPNS/PMA nanocomposite were characterized by FT-IR,TEM and TGA.The results show that the addition of nano-sized SiO₂ improved the thermal stability of PMA.When MPNS/PMA nanocomposite was used for the pretanning and retanning of sheep skin,the shrinkage temperature of the pickled and blue sheep skin were increased by 15.5 and 11℃ respectively,with the thickness of crust leather increasing 70% and 48%.
