Extraction of Phenol by N-Pyrrolidyl-2-picolinamide (NPPFA) from Aqueous Solution

A new extractant (NPPFA) was synthesized from 2-pyridinecarboxylic acid and pyrrolidine,and its extraction behavior for phenol was studied.The results show that the distribution ratio of phenol is high,and there is no emulsion and the two phases separate easily.By application of the methods of double-logarithmic slope and continuous variation,the composition of the extracted species was determined to be C₆H₅OH·NPPFA.The enthalpy of the extraction reaction was calculated to be ΔH⁰=-42.59 kJ/mol based on the Van't Hoff equation.The structure of the extracted species and the mechanism of the extraction reaction were investigated by infrared spectroscopy.
