Spherical calcium carbonate was prepared by the reaction of sodium carbonate with calcium chloride in the presence of a biomolecule(HPMC) as the template.The products were characterized by SEM,FT-IR and XRD,respectively.The results show that calcite formed in the absence of HPMC and vaterite formed in the presence of HPMC.The effect of HPMC on the crystal form and morphology of the as-prepared CaCO₃ was investigated.It was found that the shape of the produced calcium carbonate crystallites could be well controlled by adjusting the HPMC concentration.Vaterite spheres were induced when the ω(HPMC) reached 1.0%.
