Synthetic Improvement of p-tert-Butoxycarbonyloxystyrene-Intermediate of Monomer of Poly(p-Hydroxystyrene)

p-tert-Butoxycarbonyloxystyrene was synthesized by Wittig reaction with changing solvent medium. The hybrid products were separated and purified by conventional liquid chromatography with neutral Al₂O₃ anhydrous column and n-hexane for elution, which simplifies the separation method. It was shown that the purity of the aim product was higher than 99% and its yield was 60%~70%. The intermediate product p-tert-butoxycarbonyloxybenzaldehyde could be synthesized conveniently and quantitatively. The main byproduct was triphenylphosphine oxide. The aim product, intermediate product and some byproducts were identified with FTIR and NMR.
