Synthesis of Cyanoacetamide via DCC Coupling

Cyanoacetamide is an important intermediate.This paper reports a new preparation method for N-substituded cyanoacetamides from cyanoacetic acid and N-substituded amine via DCC coupling.Into equal mole of cyanoacetic acid and amine in solvent was added dropwise equal mole of DCC,refluxed,and the end of the reaction was determined with TLC.The crude product was recrystallized or chromatographed with proper solvent to afford the product in yield of 52%~90% and ≥95% purity.The product was characterized by mp,IR and ¹H NMR.This procedure is convenient and gives higher yield,and is suitable for the preparation of cyanoacetamides from different amines.
