Interaction Between Silicotungstic Heteropolyacid and Ofloxacin

A complex composed of ofloxacin(OFLX) and silicotungstic heteropolyacid(SiW) was studied by means of fluorescence and IR spectroscopies. SiW can quench the fluorescence of OFLX by forming a new complex. The binding site number n,apparent binding constant K_A and corresponding thermodynamic parameters were measured at different temperatures. The result indicates that the electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions play a major role in stabilizing the complex. The IR spectrum confirms the presence of Keggin type anion in the SiW-OFLX complex.
