NaEuTiO₄ (NETO) with layered perovskite structure was synthesized by sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), cyclic voltammogram (CV) and charge-discharge test were used to characterize its structural, morphological and electrochemical properties of the NETO treated with dilute nitric acid. The results show that there was an ion exchange path of Na⁺→H⁺→Li⁺ for NETO beside the reported Na⁺→Li⁺ path. That is to say, Na⁺ could be exchanged with H⁺ in dilute acid to form HETO. Then HETO could transform to LETO by means of charge-discharge cycling. The LETO obtained by this route also had an excellent electrochemical performance. NETO-12 h showed the best electrochemical properties with the reversible capacity of about 213.2 mAh·g^-1 after 300 cycles. Moreover, it exhibited a good rate capability.
