A new and convenient synthesis of phendiones oxidated by KBrO₃/H₂SO₄ at room temperature

A new method is described to synthesize phendione derivatives from 1, 10-phenanthrolines using potassium bromate and 60%sulfuric acid as oxidant, which was easily applicable to scale-up. The reaction conditions are mild and the yields are excellent. The target compounds have been characterized by ¹H NMR, and IR.
