General chemistry is one of the compulsory courses for students majoring in materials, energy and environmental science in universities. Students can systematically learn basic chemical knowledge, which can help students learn the related professional courses. According to the teaching practice for general chemistry in recent years, we analyze the problems in the teaching practice, and give some suggestions on training students' innovative ability, constantly updating the teaching contents, combining theory teaching and laboratory teaching, and so forth.
