Preparation of Coconut Char Sulfonic Acid and Its Catalytical Application for Synthesis of Calix[4] resorcinarenes

A novel solid sulfonic acid was prepared from coconut shell via carbonization and sulfonation and used as a catalyst for the condensation of aldehydes and resorcinol,and calix[4] resorcinarenes were prepared rapidly in good yield(49%~95%). The structures of the target compounds were confirmed by IR,¹H NMR and MS.
