In recent years, electric vehicle fire incidents have been increasingly reported, with many of these accidents being associated with lithium-ion battery separators. This study implemented “Unveiling the Lithium-ion Battery Separator” as a project-based teaching theme for the “Condensed State of Polymers” chapter in the “Polymer Structure and Properties” course. Through completing multiple project tasks, students gained comprehensive understanding of lithium-ion battery operation principles, separator functions and performance characteristics, separator types and manufacturing processes, as well as separator design and performance enhancement. The project facilitated students’ comprehension of various condensed states of polymers, including polymer crystallization formation and melting, polymer orientation, and the interrelationships among processing techniques, condensed states, and physical properties. This teaching approach effectively enhanced students’ teamwork and communication skills while cultivating rigorous scientific thinking, innovation awareness, and core subject competencies.
