Inverted 'Π' Graphic Memory Method for Thermodynamic Basic Equations and the Application in Teaching Practice

In the study of physical chemistry, students frequently face challenges in effectively comprehending and systematically organizing thermodynamic equations. These difficulties stem from both a limited depth of understanding of the formulas and the inherent complexity of thermodynamic theory, particularly the intricate interrelationships among the eight state functions. This paper examines the relationships between the eight state equations in thermodynamics and introduces a novel approach for their rapid memorization and mastery. The study focuses on three key aspects: thermodynamic fundamental equations, corresponding coefficient relations, and Maxwell relations. Specifically, it presents an innovative inverted “∏” graphic mnemonic technique complemented by instructional animation videos. Through the implementation of these advanced teaching strategies and memory aids, this research aims to enhance students' comprehension and retention of thermodynamic equations, thereby improving learning outcomes and establishing a solid foundation in thermodynamics.
