This study presents a research-oriented comprehensive instrumental analysis laboratory course designed within a scientific research context. We developed an integrated experiment combining gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) for metabolomic profiling of plasma small molecules. This approach enables students to master the principles and operational techniques of three analytical instruments (GC, LC, and MS) through a single experiment, effectively addressing the issue of knowledge fragmentation in traditional courses. By incorporating detailed instrument structure explanations and open experimental parameter settings, we significantly enhanced the course’s exploratory nature and actively engaged students' initiative in learning.
